PLACE: BEN GUERIR, MOROCCO.
The SUNIMPLANT project, inspired by the archaic design of African architecture, has wanted to recreate an organic model in a contemporary concept for its proposal in the SOLAR DECATHLON AFRICA 2019. To do this they commissioned Look Composites to manufacture 28 curved hemp fiber panels with Biobased epoxy resin, which cover the exterior of the construction. With their project they have demonstrated the versatility and potential of natural fibers in modern buildings, emphasizing residual materials of Moroccan native agriculture.
- Curved panels made to measure. - Natural hemp fiber reinforcement. - Transparent biobased epoxy resin with ultraviolet protection. - Infusion manufacturing system to achieve compact and resistant panels. - Good weathering behavior.
The finished project has a contemporary and attractive appearance. Functionally the pieces perfectly fulfill their mission, at the same time that the residual materials of the agriculture of the area have been used. This project is a great example of how to give value to natural materials discarded in buildings effectively. We are proud to have collaborated in the project and will continue investigating these natural materials for future applications.
